Sânzienele is a zoetrope painting created as a tribute to a wonderful community of women I’m honored to be a part of. In Romanian folklore, Sânziene are mythical beings often linked to the summer solstice. In many tales, they are portrayed as beautiful guardian spirits of the forests, associated with fertility and growth. The animation's movement is inspired by one of Anca-Roxana Bucătaru's enchanting choreographies, which shares the same name.
