Exhibition: Dreamscape

Dreamscape is my second solo exhibition, and it is a transition project that has taught me to separate the emotional processing that goes into my paintings from drama. It is a visual journal of my dreams for two years, and it is also the basis for the Dreamscape book.

Original curatorial text, written by Malina Moncea:
"Dreamscape is an escapade in Monica Ivan's paintings, as she herself painted them, inspired by nocturnal reveries. She created elaborate scenarios or depicted fleeting moments, but what remains consistent is that her immersive, and in a strange way, relatable work never ceases to make both herself and the audience wonder about the chimeras of the subconscious and the day-to-day processing of information in the resting state of the mind, which creates perceptual distortions.

Monica's painting explores a wide dreamlike spectrum, from the playfulness to the morbidity of what is displayed to us in these states of drift. During sleep, memory is consolidated, information is encoded, and in the waking state, latent fragments of memories, events can be discovered and, therefore, conclusions of life that work especially in the field of consciousness are interwoven. Monica Ivan explores these psychological processes and advances her pictorial approach by journaling them for artistic and personal purposes."
